About EnviroMedia News

EnviroMedia News is an independent news service offering free, original stories about environmental and sustainability issues to all media.

With your support we hope to expand the site into an online newsroom where journalists can discuss and share information, and find useful tools like a clippings and document library, a comprehensive contact book and environmental diary.

Please register and help us to bring more environmental news stories to the media’s attention.

Enviromedia news is edited and written by Hilary Venables.

Hilary has 25 years experience in mass communications, both as a journalist and an advertising copywriter.

She has worked as a reporter and columnist for the Cape Times, a writer, sub editor and producer for the BBC World Service in London, and as a copywriter in advertising agencies in South Africa and the Middle East.

In 2005, she co-founded, edited and wrote most of the copy for the Small Times, a free mini-newspaper distributed in coffee shops throughout Cape Town. The Small Times, which won a devoted following during its 18 months of existence, made a point of raising the issues of climate change, resource depletion and imminent global economic turmoil when these barely registered on the mainstream news scale.

Since its demise, Hilary has been writing on environmental and energy issues for various newspapers and is currently a regular contributor to Noseweek magazine.
